Program @ A Glance

8:30 am-10:30 am Generation Yes Roundtable
Victoria Bawn, Program Engagement Coordinator with the Generation YES Organization
will be in Tucson to share information about the unique Generation Yes Computer Science and IT Training . This unique program provides IT & Computer Science education curriculum, resources and training to K-12 schools that enable schools to train teams of Student Technology Leaders (STLs) in grades 4-12 to provide professional development, mentoring and IT support to educators and IT staff in schools. Students develop workforce ready IT, leadership, communication, and digital literacy skills.You will also hear about successful programs in Paradise Valley and Yuma in Arizona.

​GenYes: Consults with schools to create a custom GenYes implementation model; Provides curriculum and web-based tools; Establishes a strategy to get a good return on investment for existing and new technology initiatives in a school. One of  priorities for GAZeL in 2019 is to promote adoption of Generation Yes Computer Science and IT Training  in schools throughout Arizona.

10:30 am-12:00 pm PCC Cyber Warfare Range and Center of Excellence

Will McCullen, Academic Director of Information Technology at Pima Community College  will provide an overview and tour of the new Arizona Cyber Warfare Range @ Pima Community College. The Arizona Cyber Warfare Range is a “live fire”, volunteer driven cyber range with the goal to drive innovation in cyber security techniques, technologies and training across the United States.

Along with the Arizona Cyber Warfare Range, PCC  is pleased to introduce their new CyberSecurity Associate of Applied Science Degree intended for Direct Employment. PCC and the Arizona Cyber Warfare Range will work together to develop capable cyber warriors, protecting the health and welfare of our nation’s businesses and infrastructure. This will complement our existing AAS programs in programming, networking and 2+2 transfer programs into University of Arizona’s NSA designated programs.

​PCC is committed to creating an IT Center of Excellence that will be a nexus for cyber academics and community development. A place where IT careers can begin, grow, and continually improve in a practical encouraging environment.

About Generation Yes

The Generation YES mission is to overcome K-12 technology integration challenges by preparing students to join educators in the school transformation process. Generation YES is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that prepares teams of Student Technology Leaders (STLs) in grades 4-12 to provide professional development and IT support to educators and IT staff.

These students participate in real-world experiences that develop the lifelong learning and people skills necessary to succeed in colleges and careers. STLs are started on a path to AP Computer Science, coding classes, and other high-level technology courses. Generation Yes is developing programs which systemically address the digital divide. 

​​GenYes recognizes that schools are the foundation for communities and believe that focusing on education programs for underserved youth is the best approach towards solving the diverse and complex issues facing communities on the wrong side of the digital divide. Generation YES programs focus on:
 Specifically, Generation YES programs focus on:
  • Training youth to provide tech support and mentoring in their schools, homes, and communities. 
  • Developing leadership opportunities for underserved youth to build confidence and communication skills.
  • Enhancing digital literacy including cyber safety and digital citizenship
  • Building workforce readiness skills for "middle-skill" jobs- jobs that don't require a college degree but pay above the national living wage.

Revolutionary advancements in cyber security happen here. The Arizona Cyber Warfare Range  is a non-profit, volunteer-based, live-fire cyber warfare range actively involved in community, state and national cyber security defense on a daily basis. Created to augment current cyber security resources in Arizona and develop a highly capable cybersecurity workforce.

​AZCWR continues to drive innovation in cyber security techniques, technologies, and training across the United States. AZCWR, stocked with laptops, servers and a variety of other equipment, is free and open to the public and will help anyone who desires to develop or enhance their cyber security skills, stay up-to-date with current cyber threats or needs assistance with current cyber security issues affecting their home or business.  You may be interested in practical cyber defense training in areas such as cracking passwords, cloning keycards, breaking into computer systems, and more.
