Free Webinar:The Future of Work and What It Means for K-12 Schools
Free Education Week Webinar
Wednesday, October 18, 2017
2:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (11:00 AZ)
Today’s 6th graders will hit their prime working years in 2030. What kind of job market will they face? It’s clear that analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence are reshaping the nature of work. But economists are sharply divided over how disruptive the long-term impact of technology will be.
What do schools need to know?
Is their challenge to better prepare more students for the high-skilled STEM, computer science, and data science jobs that are currently available? Or, in a world of constant technological change, will adaptability be key?
How can schools prepare students to take part in the political, social, and ethical debates already being stirred by technology-driven changes in the economy?
Education Week Special Report: Schools and the Future of Work
What Will Our Students Need to Know?
This webinar is part of Education Week’s yearlong initiative to provide special coverage of workforce-preparation trends and their implications for K-12 schools.

Four October AZ Rural Broadband Focus Groups
See dates and Locations below
The State of Arizona would like to invite you and other interested stakeholders to participate in a rural broadband focus group session to help the State of Arizona develop a statewide broadband plan aimed at bringing affordable high-speed internet to rural AZ communities. We are looking to include county and local officials as well as the school superintendents, the county CIOs, economic development personnel, health and education representatives and members of the business community from each of these regions. We will have representatives from E-Rate; FirstNet and the Commerce Authority to provide an overview of these projects at the state level and how they may impact your community. This is a user not a provider meeting.
Most importantly, during our 2-hour session we want to hear from you about the challenges facing your community and region when it comes to providing internet services to rural communities and what you would like to see in the plan.

AZ Rural Broadband For Education Initiative Update
Arizona Broadband for Education Initiative (ERate)– Year 2 Update
To: E-rate applicant/District contact
From: Milan Eaton
As the school year gets underway, I want to let you know that The Governor’s Office of Education, the Arizona Department of Education, and the Corporation Commission are continuing our partnership with EducationSuperHighway on the “Arizona Broadband for Education Initiative”. Our goal is to ensure every student in Arizona has the high-speed Internet necessary to take advantage of the promise of digital learning.
Our work last year led to Arizona becoming 1 of only 15 states to establish a state matching fund. This E-rate cycle, schools and libraries may take advantage of the remaining $9.9M to cover up to 10% of the cost of special construction for Category 1 services. Additionally, E-rate applicants approved for this funding have the opportunity to access an additional 10% in federal E-rate funding as per the FCC state matching fund rules.
EducationSuperHighway’s team of experts is available to help you plan your network upgrade and answer questions regarding the state matching funds for this E-rate cycle. In addition, their tools and resources can save you time and help you maximize the federal and state funds available for school connectivity.
Just like last year, all the support and tools offered to Arizona schools and libraries through the “Arizona Broadband for Education Initiative” are free of charge.
We will kick off year two of the project at the County Superintendent training sessions throughout the state. Additionally, Jess Stein is leading the team at EducationSuperHighway and may reach out to you directly to understand your existing infrastructure and technology goals later in the fall. Last year, we supported over 100 districts through the Initiative, so please don’t hesitate to take advantage of the support and funding available to you.
If you have any questions or would like to know more about the initiative, contact me or Jess Stein
