Watson Teacher Advisor
In Brief: Teacher Advisor With Watson is a free tool built specifically for teachers to help them improve lesson planning and instruction. IBM shared the initial idea for Teacher Advisor at the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) TEACH Conference in 2015. IBM’s technologists worked closely with the American Federation of Teachers, national education leaders, and math teachers to develop this free online resource. Hosted on IBM Cloud, the tool offers high-quality, vetted teaching material from a range of education experts and non-profits, including UnboundEd, Student Achievement Partners, Illustrative Mathematics, CPALMS, EngageNY, Achieve, and AFT’s Share My Lesson.
Elementary school teachers across the nation are beginning to use Teacher Advisor With Watson, a free online tool powered by IBM Watson artificial intelligence technology to help them confidentially access targeted lesson plans and video for math instruction. About 1,000 curated lesson plans and teaching strategies have been vetted for quality and are available so far. The software developed by the IBM Foundation, in collaboration with the American Federation of Teachers, renowned educators, education non-profits, funders, and content providers, provides educators with targeted guidance to help strengthen their teaching skills and improve student achievement.
Teacher Advisor Main Site Link: http://teacheradvisor.org After scrolling around reading about the effort and watching a few brief videos, click on the "Start Using Teacher Advisor." You will get a pop-up asking to register... just email based and some school info. And you are off to navigate... There is a tutorial series of popups - relatively simple but may want to walk thru them.

P-TECH-9-14 HS Program (in collaboration with IBM)
WHY: In 2010 – in direct response to the skills crisis – IBM designed P-TECH, a grade 9 to 14 school. And from the launch of the first school in 2011, P-TECH has grown to nearly 70 schools across three continents – with more than 300 business partners following IBM’s design. There is only one reason a program like P-TECH has grown so fast; spread so widely across states, continents and cultures; and garnered endorsements and support from such a broad array of education, industry and political stakeholders: replication was built into P-TECH’s design, and consequently its results show great promise in better preparing students to advance from school to college to career.
There is a documented and sizable skills gap in America. Many young adults do not have the skills needed to enter and succeed in growth sectors of the economy. This is true both for those with a high school diploma, and for those with some college education. There are 28 million middle skill jobs — those that require an associate degree or similar technical training — currently vacant in the U.S. By 2018, an additional 14 million jobs requiring middle skills will be created. The highest paid of those jobs will be in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Increasing the number of young adults who earn a college degree has a positive impact both on individuals and on society.
The P-TECH 9-14 model addresses post-secondary degree completion and career readiness by smoothing the transitions between high school, college, and the professional world. In particular, the model recognizes that students need early and engaging experiences with the world of work, to make the academic work in high school and college meaningful and to fully prepare them with the workplace skills required by employers.
President Obama proclaimed during his 2013 State of the Union Address, "At schools like P-TECH in Brooklyn... students will graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree in computers or engineering. We need to give every American student opportunities like this."
Is an IBM Sponsored Program beginning in NY and has been rapidly expanded across the country. AZ could also benefit
