But first a little background about GAZeL

GAZeL Launches Arizona’s Innovative Learning Collaborative

Picture
You may know GAZeL as an eLearning organization Connecting Arizona’s eLearning Community, growing the eLearning industry in Arizona and promoting the use and adoption of eLearning in business, government, education and community organizations. Maybe you have participated in our events such as CEO Breakfasts, networking events, Forums, Conferences, our eLearning Summit, or our discussions about eLearning research in Arizona.

In 2015 the Board made an important decision. While events are great, we want to focus on initiatives that will have impact and enhance innovative learning in Arizona. So, on September 28, 2015 GAZeL, in cooperation with other business, education and community organizations, convened the Forum on Innovative Learning 2015 and Beyond: Challenges, Opportunities, Technologies and Strategies.

The Forum launched the Arizona Innovative Learning Collaborative.

In 2016 the Board officially adopted a Roadmap for GAZeL’s future with a new focus on Innovative Learning, and development of the Collaborative. The Collaborative reflects a broader vision for GAZeL . While GAZeL will remain committed to eLearning, eLearning is only the beginning! Innovative Learning is so much more.  The focus is on outcomes, impact, benefits, and opportunities for Arizona.

Unlike many organizations that focus on a particular sector, the Collaborative will connect innovative learning advocates and innovators representing  public and private colleges and universities, community colleges, K-12 education, and business, government, and nonprofit organizations.

Collaborative Goals - Innovation, Technology, Collaboration

The Collaborative will engage the Arizona community, including educators, policy makers and community leaders, in developing  Communities Of Interest to:
  • Create a Culture of Education Innovation that will promote and support adoption of innovative ideas and new technologies that will enable Arizona to create next generation education and workforce development solutions for our state and our communities.
  • Provide opportunities for education innovators to collaborate and network, share ideas and resources, exchange best practices, pursue joint funding opportunities, develop mutual professional development strategies, pursue and share research opportunities, and engage in other cooperative initiatives that will support adoption of new and innovative strategies and technologies

Innovation and technology must be infused in all Arizona discussions about education reform.

Priorities 2018 and Beyond

The Collaborative we will focus on innovative ideas, new technologies and collaboration. We are committed to producing outcomes that will have impact, benefits, and opportunities for Arizona.

We will be creating Teams/Communities of Interest to network, share ideas and resources, exchange best practices, pursue joint funding opportunities, develop mutual professional development strategies, pursue and share research opportunities and cooperate in other initiatives that will support adoption of innovative strategies and technologies. Initially the Teams/Communities of Interest will include:
  • Gamified Virtual Laboratory Simulations
  • Collaborative Professional Development
  • Innovative Learning Conference: It's Time For Disruptive Innovative Learning! Strategic Planning for Innovation, Technology and Collaboration for our Arizona K-12 Schools, Universities, Community Colleges, Libraries and Community Organizations
  • Open Education Resources Advocacy and Network
  • Innovation Labs/Makerspaces Network
  • State and Local Innovative Learning Plans
  • Collaboration with other organizations to develop policies and strategies to facilitate deployment of Broadband to rural Arizona schools and communities
Communities Of Interest activities may include
  • Conferences, Forums, Workshops, Webinars
  • Networking events
  • Research
  • Joint projects and grants
  • Professional development
